Kay Brophy

Kay has been working with Shrewsbury Academies Trust primary age children as a counsellor. During the course of her work and in follow up discussions, she has identified patterns and common concerns and anxieties shared by children and families. She is now devising a course for us, 'Finding Your Way', for use with both children and parents. The aim is to address some of these common concerns and myths around childhood and parenting before they become real issues affecting family life and education.

Kay has designed some fantastic characters which the children can relate to and which will enable them to understand and express their emotions in a safe way. Children and parents will be guided through their emotions by the range of character books which can be used in conjunction with the course or on their own.

'The Sad Skeleton' is just one of a whole series of characters that ties in with the 'Finding Your Way' course. We are also in discussions about linking the characters and stories into lesson plans for use with Foundation and Key Stage 1 pupils, and to support those working in the Early Help Process.

We have been pleased to support Kay in devising and designing 'Finding Your Way', which is due to be piloted in July with new Reception Children and parents. We are looking forward to introducing the characters in our Primary schools and to our continued working relationship.
