30 May 2017

We offer an inclusive, non-judgemental, child and family-focused service for parents, carers, teachers and anyone working with children in schools.

Family is so important to us all – it’s good to know there is someone there for us, cheering us on, holding our hand and wiping away the tears. But what happens when the family breaks down or members of a family find themselves unable to support each other? All families will go through difficult times and often the right kind of help and support can be hard to find. Acorn understands this; it’s during these times that people can need some extra support for their children, in order to ensure that they continue to thrive.

Modern family life can be complex and it could be argued that children today have to deal with more emotional pressures than ever before. Building their resilience is key. Resilience is not something we are born with, we have to work at it throughout our lives – just think how hard it is to take on a physical challenge, such as running a marathon. Resilience is what keeps us going when we feel we want to give up. In the same way, helping our children to deal with emotional challenges, by building their resilience, will prepare them for life’s inevitable ups and downs.

Children also need clear boundaries from the key adults around them in order to feel safe in the world. When life becomes challenging due to change or trauma, it can be difficult to maintain clear boundaries, causing the child to behave differently in order to regain adult attention. At Acorn we can offer support to help parents, carers and those working with children, to put the boundaries back in place when they have disappeared or become blurred.

Acorn also offers specialist training packages and resources for schools based on the Finding Your Way series of books. To find out more please click on the link below.
